I am a graduate student at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs and am conducting a survey in order to categorize musical selections by the emotion a person feels when they hear it.
The purpose of this research is to try to classify music excerpts by emotion in order to create software that can identify the mood in a game or story and attach appropriate background music. Each musical selection lasts from 1 to 4 minutes. The music is in an infinite loop so, once you decide which emotion you feel it expresses, you can click on the corresponding part of the diagram. If you want to continue with the survey but do not want to rate the current selection, you may click SKIP. At any time, if you do not wish to continue, you can simply close the window or navigate away from the survey webpage. The only data that is recorded is the musical selection ID and the coordinates of the emotion you select. No cookies are used in this web implementation and no personal information will be requested or recorded.
